Exceptional Leadership

Leaders come in as many forms as there are leadership styles. At its core, leadership nurtures the foundation of company culture, empowering employees to realize the importance of their contributions to achieving shared goals. Leaders who embody this mindset possess the ability to motivate, inspire, provide purpose and direction. They are the major contributors to the seamless functioning of an organization, rendering all other business resources ineffective in their absence.

At MMC, we believe continual learning is the cornerstone of great leadership, and constantly seek new ways to broaden our leadership thinking. We were inspired by the article 13 Inspiring Traits of Exceptional Leaders, written by Glenn Leibowitz, Content Creator at Inc.com. As he reflects on the leaders encountered throughout his career, he finds that the exceptional ones share certain characteristics that set them apart.

Exceptional leaders have a seemingly magical talent for inspiring and motivating others through captivating stories that convey ideas and facts effectively. Through the art of storytelling, they establish strong relationships with others. They treat people with dignity and respect and genuinely care for their well-being. They stand by their people, celebrating their accomplishments and showing their support during challenging times. They are responsive. They own their mistakes and say “thank you” often.

Exceptional leaders value the expertise of their teams and trust them to do the job they were hired to do. They recognize contributions and encourage employee growth and development. They find opportunities to let their teams shine, encouraging them to take on more challenging and impactful projects.

Most importantly, exceptional leaders care. They “are the ones who show a genuine interest in and concern for others. They ask you, ‘How are you?’ or ‘How's your family?’ And then they listen, and express genuine concern."

And, in all of this, may we strive to reach the full extent of our potential. May we aspire to be exceptional leaders that inspire others.
